With close to three decades of experience in special education and counseling, I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals with special needs and helping them achieve their full potential. My journey began in 1992 when I volunteered as a teacher at the Denton State School (now the Denton State Supported Living Center). This initial experience ignited a lifelong commitment to empowering others.
My academic path led me to the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Special Education. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant at the Children’s Research Laboratory and volunteered as a hotline counselor for the Austin Mental Health Association. I also gained hands-on experience as an in-home Behavior Modification Therapist, applying the Lovaas Behavior Modification Program.
Following my undergraduate education, I pursued a graduate degree in counseling at the University of North Texas. My professional career began at Green Oaks Behavioral Health Care in Dallas, where I served as an Education Therapist and Adolescent Unit Therapist. This role provided me with extensive experience in working with children and families facing a variety of mental health challenges.
For 21 years, I served as a Special Education Counselor with Lewisville ISD, where I collaborated with children, parents, and educators to address diverse needs and foster student growth. Since 2023, I have been with Denton ISD as a District Engagement Coach. In this role, I enjoy working closely with teachers and administrators to develop and implement strategies and programs designed to support students’ emotional and behavioral needs.
I started the Dubner Counseling Center in 2010, which has been a rich, rewarding experience in helping others navigate the twists and turns that life gives us. I now also provide Counseling Supervision to those pursuing professional licensure.
